Shadow of Devotion

A Romanesque nave, empty chairs and a human shadow on a column.

Castell’Arquato, a Romanesque nave in the early afternoon. The chairs are lined up and empty, the crucifix emerges from the half-light through a thread of light from the windows. On a column, a dark shape: a human shadow that seems to remain when everyone has gone. Black and white removes colour and leaves stone, light and that presence. Black-and-white conversion, crop and contrast adjustments.
